Question: Trying to find info re ancestor who died in america 1867-1870!?
Can anyone help me find info on the death of gt gt grandfather who died in a fire while trying to save someone,while on a visit to America 1867-1870!. where is the best place to try!? Can't find on any genealogy websites!. He was born in Staffordshire in England and his wife was Sarah Jane Pagett!. I have been told the fire could have been in a court building-Thank you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's extremely difficult!. He died before most states were keeping death records, which officially started in the majority of states on 1/1/1871!. We can look at the passenger records during that period, but they're incomplete!. If one of these looks like he could be your ancestor, let me know and I'll snoop around more!. It would at least give us a point of reference on where he might have been visiting!.

you could try the genes reunited website
So you knwo where in America!?
If so, try searching that on google with that date and see what comes up!.
You could try old newspapers, but i dont think there would be anything in the UK ones!.
If you get in contact with someone in America, see if they will search the local libary records for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
