If my mother's First Cousin is my Second Cousin!.!.!. Yes, they would be your 6th cousin!.

Legally, in any country who's legal code is based on English Common Law, sexual involvement with first and second order relations (brothers / sisters / parents / children / grand parents / aunts / uncles / [first] cousins) is incest!. Anything beyond that is fine in the eyes of the law!.

So, if you have the hots for someone you share a gene pool with whom is more that many steps removed, there should be no genetic issues, and definately no Legal issues!. As for moral issues, there are none, and then you only have to deal with "squeemish" relatives!.

There are two possible answers because your question isn't completely clear!.

Possibility #1: If their grandparents are 3rd cousins and their parents are 4th cousins, then they're 5th cousins and it's legal in the US and Canada for them to date (4th cousins is the rule, except in Appalachia)!.

Contrary to other claims (I have to believe they're European because America and Canada are the same on this belief), very few places in North America allow cousins to marry unless they're past child-bearing age!. In most state, it's not until a documented 4th-cousin relationship that you can legally marry!. Ask Rudy Giuliani!.!.!.it's the reason his first marriage was legally annulled!. They didn't know they were only 2nd cousins!.
Possibility #2: Grandparent of 1 person is the 3rd cousin of the other person!. Then they're 3rd cousins twice removed and some states will allow them to marry, but others won't!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If Grandparents = 3rd cousins

says that you can marry your first cousin in Canada - and in 25 of 50 states in the USA!. No state or nation prohibits second, third or higher degrees of cousins marrying!.

Marrying a cousin was quite common before 1880 or so, especially in sparsely populated counties or among small sects!. I'd bet the Amish do it today!. My Monroe County (Va/WV) ancestors did it constantly!. So did my Pennsylvania "Dutch" ancestors!.

"Removed" is when you go up or down generations!. Your parents' cousins are yours too - same degree, once removed!. Your grandparents' cousins are yours twice removed and so on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I will let others sort out the cousin relationship, but 1st cousin marriages were not all that uncommon in some rural areas of Europe in the good old days!.

In fact I have some first cousin marriages w/in my own family tree!. It makes things odd when seeing the same surnames and trying to figure out the relationships!.

In the U!.S!. at this time it appears that 1st cousin marriages are acceptable in many states!. I notice that 'double cousins' are excluded in North Carolina!.

I have one 'double cousin', but this is due to the fact that two 1st cousins married two brothers!. So, each couple were not actually relatedl, but this cousin is considered a 'double cousin' as we both are related to the same two families!. So, one of my aunts was both my aunt and my mom's first cousin!.
