Question: What country does the last name Lincecum come from!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It's a Huguenot family from the NE corner of France and flipping over into southern Netherlands!. Depending on your branch of the family, you're either Dutch or French!.
The progenator of most of the Lincecums in the Deep South was a man named Paschal Lincecum who was probably actually born in Britain after his parents escaped a Huguenot purge!. He settled in Maryland in the mid-1700s!. His granchildren ended up down in the Bayou areas!. It's not a small family so it's hard to believe there isn't any information on them!. A quick search and I found records going back to both the Netherlands and France on the family!. They've been in the US a very, very long time and it won't be hard to track them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

wow!.

* There are 0 people in the U!.S!. with the last name Lincecum!.
* This name is not found in our database, this means the name is relatively uncommon!. Click here for more details!.

So, throw out this website!. Justme is an excellent researcher, but the source is completely in error!.
I live in Texas!.!. and I have never heard of any sports person of the name!.!. which means nothing!. "I believe he is of German descent" does not make the surname German!. Does not work that way!. You know sports!.!.!. I know genealogy!. Genealogy depends on documentation!.
VALID census records show the name is in the US as early as the early 1800s, with family members claiming that Paschal Lincecum is the immigrant, and they say his place of birth was France!. Is THAT fact!? I personally cannot vouch for that statement, since I don't know (nor did they include) which record, if any, was used as the basis for that statement!. Of the early census records, many of them are in fact in Tx!.!. but others give their place of origin as being Georgia, Missouri, Miss, Louisiana!. Makes sense!.!. Texas was not a state until 1846, and while there were a FEW "Anglos" in Texas before the 1840s!.!. it is known that a high percentage of Texans have roots in Southern states!. A very common and known migration pattern!. Another clue to Southern roots is the reality that the name shows on both 1850 and 1860 slave schedules!.
Of those with the name in the 1900 census, there were 122 persons!.!. that includes wive, of course and children!. No one in that group gave Germany as a place of birth!.
I also tried familysearch!.org!.!.!. one thing that is often good about their records are those based on original church records, which have been extracted!. They had no entries at all for any location in Europe, which were backed up by a valid original record!. My personal view on this!.!. I have often seen this happen WHEN THE NAME IN THE US is a variation of another original name!. In other words!.!. it may not exist elsewhere with this spelling!.!. but is only in the US!.
The bottom line is that there are a number of sources!.!. and they seem to raise more questions than they solve!. One way of solving this!.!. is to trace your ancestry, using good documentation, until you reach what is known as the immigrant ancestor!. Once you find THAT person, you search for a legitimate document that shows his place of origin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

itsjustme, you obviously do not know what you are talking about!. Tim Lincecum is a star pitcher for the San Fransisco Giants in America!. You must not follow sports but i believe it is of German descent, the pitcher is also of German ancestory I believe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
