Question: How do i trace my family tree!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Go to the registry office to search for offical records, there might be info online at ancestry!.com, go to church see if they have any details, ask relatives, do some hunting aroundWww@QuestionHome@Com

The (broad) answer is that you start with YOU!.!. and locate records/ documents concerning yourself, your parents, and on backwards!. For example!.!. very clear that your birth certificate identifies who your parents are/ were!. You'll always use maiden names for women, to locate their birth family!. Asking relatives when starting is useful!.!. but you always need to be aware that memory is not always correct, and you still have to find records to back it up!. Many people get sidetracked!.!. if family info is incorrect, you can spend much time looking in the wrong places!.
The TYPE of records that you use!.!. will vary, and change as you get back further, AND DEPENDS ON YOUR LOCATION!. Birth/death certificates were required in the mid 1800s in UK!.!. much later in the US!. Census records are another source!.!. the US has those open up to 1930, but the UK is only usable up to 1901!. You can find many records online!.!. others must be found offline!. You also MAY find other person's research on the internet!.!. but you need to be aware that these ARE NOT records, unless they offer the name of the record that their info is based on!.

Cyndi's is a massive collection of genealogy resources!. Unlike most persons!.!. I prefer to not give my favorite, but encourage you to know that there are thousands of sites out there, and the "best" one is wherever your ancestors might be!. I have seen many persons frustrated, by expecting that their ancestors will always be in ancestry!.com!.!. and not knowing how to find records, if/ when ancestry does not have them!.
One other location that is good is www!.familysearch!.org (the website for the LDS church)!. Caution!.!. some of their info is original records, other info is submitted by users, and not always correct!. Another thing offered here is PAF, a genealogy program (free) which is among the best/ standards for storing your info!.
also, always people hanging out here that can advise on specific road blocks!. The more exact your question, the better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I did mine at ancestry!.com, they have a 14 day free trial that way you can get a good start for free!. also keep in mind its takes lots of time and patience but when things start to come together its addictive!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
