Question: Same last name!?
If some one has the same last name (ie!.Parker, my last name) does it mean that probably they are related to you!? Even REALLY REALLY distantly!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not necessarily!.

At one point in history people didn't have surnames!. As populations increased it became ncessary that they have them, and in many cases, their surnames were created because of their occupation, where they lived, or from some distinctive physical feature!.

The name Black, has it's roots in the blacksmithing business!. Ditto for Smith!. A guy named John, who made textiles, would be known as John Weaver!. Someone with a huge mole in plain view!.!.!.!.John Mole!. A family who lived by the river, would take the name River or Rivers!. Same for someone who lived on a hill!.!.!.their last name would become Hill!.

Names can also morph over time!. If the same first name was known to have passed down from one generation to another, that name would be used to form the surname!. David!.!.!.who later had a son named David, and a grandson also named David, would most likely have the name "Davidson", meaning Son of David!. Same deal for John!.!.!.Johnson, Michael!.!.!.Michaelson!.

So, Hill or Davidson or whatever will have been repeated thousands of time in many geographic areas!.!.!.yet none of them are connected!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably not!. Robert E!. Lee doesn't have any Chinese cousins, but there are hundreds of thousands of Chinese named Lee!.

Sometimes yes!. 90% of the people with surname "Cady" who live in the USA are descended from Nicholas Cady, who came to Massachusetts in 1629 or so!.

In your case, no!. Wikipedia says:

Parker is a family name of English origin, dervied from Old French with the meaning "keeper of the park"!. "Parker" was also a nickname given to gamekeepers in medieval England!.Within the United States, it is ranked as the 47th-most common surname!.

So it is like "Smith" or "Fisher" - your ancestor did it for a livng!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Are you wondering about a particular Parker!? The only way to know if you are related is do the research!.

There were over 148 thousand Parkers in the 1930 census!.!. It is unlikely you are related to all of them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably not!. If it is a common name, like Parker, then, no!. If it is an unusual last name, chances are there may be a familial connection!. But, one never knows! It's a small world!Www@QuestionHome@Com
