Question: What is the probable nationality of the surname YBANEZ !?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Ibanez is Spanish, and I've been told that when the I of a Spanish name (especially at the beginning, I think) is replaced by a Y, it indicates that the name comes from the Basque region!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hard to pin-point a nationality, but clearly of Hispanic origin (take a look at the map on the link)!. http://www!.ancestry!.com/facts/Ybanez-pla!.!.!.

Very likely Cuban, however, if you're talking about US residents with that last name, since 63% of all people here with this family name have Havana, Cuba as port of departure!.

PS I know you asked for Ybanezz with 2 z's, but often such variations on the spelling of names occurred once people settled in a new place and ultimately Ybanezz and Ybanez are linked!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
