Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It was/is 42 days, , but at first there was no penalty for failing to register a birth, even in 1911 not everyone registered a birth, or even a death ! I know of quite a few non registrations of both!.Www@QuestionHome@Com re the failure to register - I knew a guy back in the 1980's who had not been Registered, therefore did not "exist"!. I had to have a signed declaration by a Geriatrician that, in his professional opinion, this guy was over 65, to enable me to pursue a claim for a Pension and Attendance Allowance for him!. also be aware that there are sometimes accidental and deliberate mistakes on Registration Documents - 3 in my own family!. My mother's day of birth was registered incorrectly, when my father registered his own mother's Death he is entered as her "husband", and my paternal grandparents lied through their back teeth when they married in a Register Office to cover up that it was a Bigamous union!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Yes six weeks!.
