Ummmm !. !. !. Reality check time

The first European settlement in Ohio was Marietta, founded 1788!. Either your GGGF's parents rushed into Ohio right after the US acquired it, or he was born in Pa / Va / Md / NY, moved to Ohio later, after it was more civilized and was married or buried there; maybe both!.

He could have been born there!. A number of people did rush into Ohio right away; free land with good timber on it was a heck of an incentive to leave civilization behind!. A lot more are "Of" Ohio on marriage and death certificates and their descendants assume, falsely, they were born there!.

President John Adams was born in 1735!. His "7th descendant" would have been born 210 years later, assuming 30 years per generation, average, if "7th descendant" means 5th great grandson or first cousin 7 times removed!. That's 1945!.

After I typed the paragraphs above I looked Robert up on RWWC,

Three people have him, and they all spell Sarah's name "Waggener" (two G's, E-N-ER instead of O-N-E-R)!. They all say he was b!. Virginia!. You can write to them!.

The general migration trend in the US was westward but not north or south!. Virginians tended to move to Kentucky then Texas!. Massachusetts residents tended to go to the northern parts of Ohio or all over Michigan, then down to the flat wheat growing states, but not far enough south to meet up with chiggers!.

Everybody spent at least 10 years in Missouri and Arkansas, especially Pope County Arkansas!. Then they all moved to California!.

John Adams was a Massachusetts man!. Very few of his relatives would have gone to (or come from) Virginia!.

Again, they could have, but if I were you I'd treat the family legend with a healthy dose of skepticism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

> My gggrandfather is Robert Adams!.!.!. born 1793
> His son's obituary states he was a 7th descendant
> of Pres!. John Adams!.

Pres!. John Adams lived from 1735 to 1826 so Robert or Robert's son (whichever was the obit) can't be seven generations descended fro John Adams!. He COULD be a 7th cousin, so check the links below to see if they help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unfortunately, no!. However, my what might seem like coincidence, I'm looking up my OWN family tree after finding out I may be a decedent of Abraham Lincoln's half sister!.

If I happen to, by chance, find anyone going by Their names, I'll remember to come back here and tell you anything that I might have found ^^!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
