Question: Trying to find out info on my grandfather he died before my mom was born!?
Okay so we found out recently that my mom has some money that her father left her thru his Social Security, the only problem is that they are asking for us to give them the SS number and we haven't been able to find it and I was wondering if anyone knows of any other way to find it other than the SSDI cause he was only 25 when he died and he isn't on there cause he died in 1948!. Any help would be greatly appreciatedWww@QuestionHome@Com

Contact the Bureau of Vital Statistics or the office that records deaths and get a copy of the death certificate!. Check it for a social security number!.

Go to one of the LDS Genealogical Library locations!. They are located all over the world, and in medium-sized cities there are usually two locations!. Ask someone there to assist you in a search of death records!. Take as much information along with you as possible: full name, date and location of birth, date and location of death!. If they are able to pull up the death record (and they should be), the social security number might be on it!.

Social Security was established in 1935!. In 1948, prior to computers, it was not managed as it is today!. Social security numbers were not required on death certificates until 1996, but were often included just the same!.

If your dad was 25 years old in 1948, he should have had a social security number if he work somewhere that required one!. Things were much looser then!. If he didn't have a social security number, there would be no benefit!.

SSDI was established in 1954!.

I'm curious about what connections you might be able to make with the source of the information that money is owed to your mother!. It seems that the source of that information would have access to a social security number, given the claim!.

Good luck to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

!?!?!!
STRONGLY suggest that you make sure of just who it is, that is contacting you!.
If social security has funds due your mother!.!. THEY have the file!. The number would have to be on the file!.
RED flag time if anyone is asking for a social security number, It is possible it is a fraud attempt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
