My grandmother is welsh, but she has dark olive skin and black (well, mostly grey now) hair!. She looks arab or meditterranean!. and I've noticed quite a few other welsh people have this kind of compexion, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Keith Allen, that guy from the Stereophonics!.!.!.!.
Her dad's family were welsh for generations, her mum was adopted but from wales!. Any ideas!?Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It's the Celtic connection!. The Celtic people of Wales, Ireland, Scotland and other places all stem from the Iberian peninsula from some point in their history (remember we are talking 4000 - 5000 years ago mind) The Welsh and Irish languages may be in fact this old there is no solid evidence to suggest that they aren't!. Welsh in general have dark features i am Welsh and I'm from Welsh speaking Wales were you get more dark complexion than light maybe this is because foreign tribes never really made it this far into Wales!. I have dark brown/black hair, Brown eyes, I am medium sized and have darker skin!. When I'm in Spain the Spaniards always come up and speak to me in Spanish (luckily enough i speak fluent Spanish lol) but they always tell me that i look like a Spaniard or an Italian!. This is probably why!. They were rescued by the locals and many stayed on and married into the local peoples, thus you have dark olive skinned peoples in those countries (Black-Irish are called so because of the Portuguese or Spanish ancestors !) The term 'Black Irish' is also accompanied by claims suggesting these physical traits to be the result of an Iberian admixture originating with survivors of the Spanish Armada!. !. It is believed that a group of Spanish soldiers ended up serving as armed retainers to the Irish chiefs Brian O'Rourke, Sorley Boy MacDonnell, and Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone!. Consequently, these soldiers may have lived in Ireland long enough to father children!. The Irish have minute amounts of Neolithic Near Eastern Y chromosome genetic markers such as E3b and J, both of which are present in low, but significant, levels throughout Spain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Could be related to Romans, there are also black Irish, my Welsh relatives are tiny and dark, now in the USA they are tall and dark, all of my uncles were tall with dark wavy hair!. I 'm not sure the skin is olive, I think Catherine Zeta-Jones has good skin but I don't know if it is olive!. I have dark hair, Welsh blood and my skin is pale!. Dark skin, hair usually dominates, my aunt (by marriage) is Germanic and she says her daughter looks more like my Mom than she does!. It's good news for you that you have Welsh blood, I was there 2 years ago, they are friendly, kind people who treat travelers nicely!. If you get a chance , go visit, it's worth it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Historically the people we now call welsh probably came from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain Gibraltar etc) and so dark skinned where as the Scandinavians brought there DNA to Scotland and England especially the east coast side!. Wales has always had a lot of seafaring connections and this has also left it's mark also there is a strong Italian connection in some parts of the principality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Have your ever heard of the "Black Irish", well I'm pretty sure that is why Welsh people are dark somtimes!.
