Has anyone placed their "Family Tree" on a public website?

Question:Which website has your family tree? I wanted to place my family tree on GeneaNet and Ancestry but when I run into problems there's no one to write to to get assistance. Can someone provide offline directions. Or, is it better to put up your own free website and get it on a search engine? And is there a nice extended free program I could download (one that you can save your info afterwards on your own pc as well as on the net instead of it being erased after you've spent hours of work in detailing your tree).

have you tried Geni.com? it's free and easy to use.

my father went through Genealogy.com and used Family Tree Maker.Its very user friendly.
go to Yahoo and type any name and check who the people use.See how user friendly it is to you.and go from there.Good Luck Hope this helps.

I use Family Tree Maker software at home on my pc. It is really user friendly, but I haven't found a free site to get it. I believe I paid $29 or $39 dollars for it. I also have my family tree on ancestry.com. I found it easy to work with. Or I could help you with answers to both of these sites.

Family tree program can either be purchased online from Ancestry or I bought mine at Sam's club for 39.95, you also can order it from Walmart. It is easy to use with the ancestry site. I find it helpful to have a family tree on ancestry.com

Most of us use a PC-based program, not a web-based one.

About every six months I upload a GEDCOM file to Roots Web World Connect (Which you know as Ancestry World Tree, I believe), GenCircles and, when I remember, GeneaNet. (It is European and I'm not.)

PC-Based programs:

Family Tree Maker is the market leader in the USA. It costs US$39 and up depending on how many other things you get bundled with it.

I like Roots Magic ($29) myself. I'd buy it instead of FTM if the prices were reversed.

PAF, from the Mormons, is free.

FTM and RM will both create a web site for you. I haven't used PAF in a long time.
