Position:Home>Genealogy> Who's genes do I have???

Question:What I mean by that is, my mom, when she was 19, her hair already started going grey. My dad, he got bad eyesight, hiw mom does, and bad eyesight runs in his side of the family, unfortunately, I inherited that. Me and my sister both have our dad's hair colour (dark blonde). My hair has more of an ashy colour, Everyone, minus my dad, has hazel eyes.

My main question though is, since my mom got grey hair at an early age, who is going to inherit the early greying, me or my sister? My mom has dark brown hair, but since I already inherited my dad's bad eyesight, who is going to inherit the early greying???

There isn't a pattern to which offspring get which genes - there is a chance that all of them get that gene, half of them, or maybe they don't get it at all. Just because you have bad eye sight and your sister has good eye sight does not mean that only one of you inherited a gene for early greying. Perhaps both of you did, or neither at all.

It is all based on dominant, co-dominant, and recessive genes. Since you have got bad eye sight, that comes from your Dad. The eye color seems to come from your mother. Since you have "ashy" hair, and your sister has blonde (even though you both have blonde), you will most likely grey earlier, but not as early as your mother, since you also have your father's genes. It seems as though your father's genes are dominant in you, and your mother's in your sister.

My "thing" isn't Biology, it is more advice and Psychology, but I hope I helped out a little!

No one can predict that for you. Genetics and what "comes down" is a tricky topic. You inheirit tendencies from the parents (and ancestors!) but tendency is just that.
And between laser surgery and hair dye.. neither has to be an issue.

Although some people inherit most of the traits of one parent, most people are a mixture of both. Whether or not you are going to go grey early is not linked at all to your eyesight. However it is more likely to be linked to your hair type in general, which you get from you dad, so I will be surprised if either you or your sister go grey as early as your mom.

You have both of your parents' genes. Most of our DNA is autosomal which we get 50-50 from both parents and it determines things like hair and eye coloring etc. However, you might wind up with characteristics that neither of your parents have since they have recessive genes that were passed down to them from their parents but they might show up in their children.
