Position:Home>Genealogy> Are there clubs, societies or organizations for different surnames? How would I

Question:I recently discovered that one of the surnames in my genealogy has a society devoted to it, including a website with very helpful forums.

I would imagine there's places like this for other surnames? How would I go about finding these? Is there some sort of listing of all the genealogical organizations?

There are message boards and mailing list on Rootsweb(free site), Ancestry.Com and Genealogy.Com.

However, unless you have an extremely rare surname, most people on them will not have any connection to you. I find the location boards and mailing lists more helpful.
You can go under country, for instance, U.S., then state and then the county.

There are genealogy societies, such as the "Smith Family Genealogy Society". Just google the surname you are interested in.
