Geneology, Could this be her??

Question:I know ur guess is as good as mine, but this is really getting me ratty, I have traced all my family to 1812, so far, but my mum's dads side is really hard as know one knows ANYTHING about her dad, he was very very private.

so I have a birth certificate of her fathers, it mentioned his mothers name MAUD HODDER, i have no dates or anything, but my grandfather was born in derbyshire

on ancestry births theres a maud hodder born in derbyshire 1903, which would of made her 23 when she had my grandfather.

for people that research family histroy how popular is the name maud hodder??? if not, are the other ways? I cant find a marriage for her and her husband so im stuck,

Townie Hodder isn't that common a name to be honest with you.
I have checked the marriage indice from 1919 up to the end of 1926 and I haven't found her. Although I must admit there is one index missing this being the O/N/D quarter of 1925. That is the only one I have been unable to check for you.

I have found a Maud Hodder born jan-mar 1904 Bakewell derbyshire. That could be her. My concern would be that hodder is a pretty unusual name but could quite likely be spelt wrong so no guarantees that it is her. IF you go onto ancetry and use soundex though there is still only one person. I have tried maude aswell as maud. It is probably her. The only way you can see is if you get your fathers birth certificate ordered and then that might give you a clue to his mother and father. Then you can order the marriage certificate and his mothers birth certificate.
However just remember that hodder I bet is spelt pretty wrong over the censuses so it will take some narrowing down.

It's not a very common name so I would think that this is your ancestor. Have you looked at the census for 1901? That might give some more clues. You could also look for Maud's marriage certificate. It wouldn't be many years earlier than your grandfather's birth.

Sounds like you've struck it lucky! Hodder isn't a very common name. If she was 23 when she had your grandfather, do you know if he was the first child? If he was the oldest, you could explore marriage licenses in 1924-26 range. If he wasn't the oldest child, it's going to be a little more difficult. Derbyshire in 1903 wasn't a huge place. There couldn't have been that many churches, so you might try backtracking through that route.
Good on you on gettting your dad's family back to 1812. Sounds like you're doing some great research.
