Records Ireland of Dublin, Ireland has a full database of Irish birth records, wills, maps and more from the 18th to 20th century. Look under the Irish Citizenship link for ancestral birth certificates. You can also locate land deeds and census records from the Records Search link. Hope this helps.

You can purchase certificates from Proni. Which is the "Public Records Office for Northern Ireland".

The link below is a directory of Irish sites that you may find useful in your research.

Hope this helps.

If it is the Republic of Ireland, you can find indexes to births, marriages and deaths at most Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints family history centres. Look in the phone book for your nearest one.

Further to what has already been said, there is a project in process to put free Irish bmds online by LDS. Further info can be found here

Most of the Irish vital stats are stored in a central registry in Dublin but unhappily there was a major fire and more than half the records were destroyed - this was in the days before computers or microfiche, when all they had were the hand written records. So there are major gaps in tracing Irish ancestors. However, if you have any idea of where your ancestors were born, you might be able to access the parish records in the church. Most of the churches kept their own records and some of them (not all, unfortunately) are acceessible.
