Position:Home>Genealogy> Ancestry free trial?

Question:Will I have to call customer-service to cancel the ancestry free trial? Is there an email, or online option instead? And will I get ripped off and forced to pay when trying to cancel, even if I cancel several days in advance. I am very wary of these 'free trial' schemes but I really need the service.

I've used this and it was fine. Make very sure you cancel in time - I believe you can do it through email. I cancelled a few days in advance to be sure and, being paranoid, did it by phone, by email etc. but, more recently, I did it for my sister and cancelled it easily (a few days in advance of the date) by email. It was fine.

Also, I must say, to have the whole use of the system is very good - being able to search other people's trees etc. I'm a paranoid person re free trials but I'd recommend this one - so long as you're vigilant about the dates and the agreement.

Ancestry.com is very reputable. They are with the LDS Church in Salt Lake City. I would have no qualms about taking the 14 day free trial if I were you.

We joined after the 14 day trial, and it has been a wonderful help to me. I recommend them highly, based on personal experience. And no, I'm not a member of their church. I'm a Baptist.

Supposedly you can cancel via the internet, phone, mail, whatever. But, you must cancel several days in advance....
Or, you can go to your local public library.

Ours has books, periodicals (such as the Mayflower Descendants and such) AND web access to www.ancestry.com and www.heritagequest.com.

To cancel on-line, login to ancestry.com, click my account (top right corner beside log out), then go to Need Help? How to cancel my subscription.

To be on the safe side, I would cancel on-line and call customer service as well BEFORE the end date of your contract. I have heard alot of negative feedback from people trying to cancel after the trial period (especially if you are outside of the U.S.).

After reading the posts above, it is possible that they have improved their practices for customers canceling subscriptions but you may want to look into the advice of others who ran into problems. See links below.
