And not only in the German-speaking world. I once saw campaign posters for an election in Mexico that was contested by a Jose Hitler. Apparently very few - most people who had that surname, either changed it completely, or went by a variation of it, eg. Heidler. I read recently that there hasn't been anyone christened Adolf in Germany in more than 50 years. I am not sure about Germany or Austria, but I served in the Marine Corps with a Hitler. Yes, but alot of them from Germany/Austria go by another name. I'm sure that there are, but they've probably done their best to change their names or somehow hide their identities since the dictator's downfall. |
