Question:I offer: Wiggle, what my late aunt Zora was called, her sister, my mother, Freckles. My husband also has some dillies in his family tree. Believe some of those folks had a wild sense of humor! (Z. has a few in her lines, I note!)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I offer: Wiggle, what my late aunt Zora was called, her sister, my mother, Freckles. My husband also has some dillies in his family tree. Believe some of those folks had a wild sense of humor! (Z. has a few in her lines, I note!)

The nickname closest to me and that I can never solve is my father's. His name was Everett John Thomas but was always called "Speed". My parents were divorced when I was six and he died when I was 18 so I have no one to ask.

My family (am from southern US) had the world's wackiest nicknames. Here are a few: Skeeter, Bugzie, Digger, Pistol, Beau; Nook and last but not least: Mighty Mouse. Skeeter was a brother in law that was so friggin thin he resembled a mosquito; Bugzie (cousin who loved to play with bugs); Digger (cousin that dug into anything); Pistol (me cause I have a hair-trigger temper); Beau (good lookin boy); Nook (uncle that liked to keep his pacifier beyond the age required; and Might Mouse (uncle who was small and thought he was big)

My own were bad enough. Pooky was what my parents called me. And Wuj (pronounced woog) was what I got from my three brothers.

My grandpa called my sister Elie, her name Cecelia Ann. My Daddy was called Shorty, which is because he was short. But, Shorty was a common nickname back in the 30's and 40's. My boyfriends' nickname is The Grease Man or Greasy Terry, because he does mechanic work. I was called Short Stuff, like my Daddy, I'm short. My Aunt Thelma Dean was nickname Dink. My other Aunt Doris Lee was nicknamed Cho Cho because she always like a Cho Cho ice cream bar. Cho Cho's were back in the 50's so not everyone has ever heard of them. My whole family on my Daddy's side of the family calls me CynthAnn short for Cynthia Ann. My cousin's wife Marilyn is nicknamed Clarence. I don't why, I think because she was the same age of her brothers and was always with them, her sisters came later. And you know our family probably like most families always call almost everyone by their first and last names together. And there are LOTS AND LOTS of family members with the middle name of Ann, even in our geneology line on my Daddys' side of the family. This has been a very interesting subject to talk about. Thank you, I love talking about my family and friends.

my ggggrandmother was called Fanny...for Verena

the best one in ours was mouse and midget

I had an aunt with a name of Bubbles. I had no idea she had any other name. When I finally met her, when I was 11 and she was 30 something I addressed her as Aunt Bubbles. (poor woman). Much later in life I learned she had a real name, Adele. She got the nickname when a baby, when she liked to blow bubbles. At twenty-thirty years old, the men in her life wouldn't be thinking that.
Had a sister-in-law her family nick named her Old Mother Hubbard. It was shortened to Hubbard. Still an affectionate name for her.

Our line had some funny ones too

Pino for Giuseppe
Lettice for Letitia
Ice Cream for Iris
Titch & Quakers for Richard
Tangerine for Angela
My Dear Nana Cis for Cecilia

Let alone Great Uncle Sac for Sackville
Tordi was short for Tordiffe (my GGgfather was always known as Tordi)

My Sister had it rough, Frankenstein as her name was Frances ;0)

Wurzel Gumidge was my & still is my Oldest brothers nick name (poor sod)
