Question:My grandfather loves to research our family history and I thought that it'd be pretty cool to start doing the same myself. I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to how to start this process and what steps to take to find the most information possible?

I am SO not a Morman, but the LDS church does have the best databases for researching family histories.Just beware of the clean cut nerds who will inevitably be knocking on your door...

Talk to your grandfather. He has a head start for you with what he has researched

Ask family members for info on deceased relatives your Mum and Dad, aunts and uncles, for instance and other grandparents - if you have any - this is the best way to start, then when you have some info you can start looking at the birth deaths and marriage records at your local townhall or similar to go back further in time. Genealogy if fascinating. Good luck.

I would start by talking to your Grandfather and get whatever information he has to start your family tree (names, years, locations).

I found ancestry.com the most helpful because you build your tree and then view the records they automatically find that come close to the data you enter. From there, you can look at census' and add other family members.

It's amazing to watch your tree grow and how much you learn about your roots. About a year ago, I was simply looking up information for my Mom on one relative and the next thing you know (a few months later) I have a family tree with about 600 of my ancestors - and still growing. I've been hooked ever since.

Here are some other good research sites:

Happy hunting!

Start with your grandfather. Hope your not my grandaurhter
Buit always only except that you can prove

I'd love to talk to my grandparents again. Too late for me. Try to get through. Break some ice.

Later, you'll be able to join a local genealogy society, go to library, and learn all about tracing your family history.

But you won't be able to get his stories again. Ever.

(You have more power as a grand-daughter than you would suppose. I know. I'm a grandpa. He's lucky to have you in his life...)
