Question:I traced my fathers, mothers side back to 1740 but I cannot even get passed his father, Thomas James Dando. His fathers name was Thomas James Dando aswell. They were both from UK Wales, Tredegar and I cannot find anything! Is it because they are still uploading files and I will have to wait? or could there be just no record of them??

Any of this look right?

might not be any record at all or maybe try searching on another website.

If you know the address they should have been residing at check the neighbouring houses..He may have been in someone elses house!

Also try another relative, a brother or sister of Thomas as he may have been staying the night there..

The census back then listed whoever was staying in that property that night! Not necessarily only the people who lived there!
Also back then many people were missed off the census for just not being there when the census was taken, if for example he was travelling overnight to somewhere he wouldn't have been resident anywhere that night!
Some people also avoided the census people!

go to the national library and search or call an expert!

There were no census records prior to 1801, and up until the 1841 census the four census that had been taken were deemed of no use to genealogy, as they were such poor quality.
I think for this one you will have to resort to the parish records, I would do a search for the baptism of Thomas James. You can phone the archives library in Tredegar and they will point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps.

Hi

My mum & I used familysearch.com and got back to 1410! One night we were on a role and just get going back and back. We tend to use this website because it gives you more info and it is also free.

They claim (I think that they are right) they have the largest collection of free family history, family tree and genealogy records in the world.

The Family History Library's database, which contains millions of names from thousands of family trees; a project of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Please do not let that put you off, its helped us confirm so much for a family tree and without this website, we would of not been able to get back to 1410!

I also do know of someone who only charges £10 to help with research. If you want info ~ email me and I will pass his number on. He is very good and finds out loads.

Good luck with your research
