Lima means "lemon" in portuguese.

The first European settlers of Brazil came from Portugal, which is why Portuguese is the official language. There were also many African slaves, and of course, millions of Native Brazilians. Most Brazilians today are mixtures of these three groups. There are also many Germans, Japanese, and other ethnic groups.

Lima was founded by Pizarro, and was Spanish until Peru gained independence.
