1901 Wales Census

Where born: Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales

Eliza A Hale-- 31
William H Hale-- 3
The street address on the original view is 8. 38 Poclin Crescent (or Podin Crescent). At least I think it's Crescent because all it showed was "Cres" and it was the only one in Tredegar, Monmouth, Wales. There were others in Monmouth, but this is the only one that matched city, county AND country.

Also, putting a false name on a document like a marriage certificate would NOT make it legal. If I had your Nan's name, I could look it up. :)

I hope this helps, I don't know, but try
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
and look up your grandmother's birth registration. You may find it on this index. Then there is a catch - you have to order the actual birth registration and the cost is (I think) about £7. However, it should give the name of the mother and father. This is how I found my grandmother's parents. I have this certificate posted at http://www.robertsewell.ca/idabirth.html if you want to see what this looks like.

Best of luck on your quest!

If the forenames are wrong are you absolutely sure that you have the right certificate? 'Hale' is not an uncommon name.

Also when you say 'fake' it might not mean anything strange was going on, people were often known with names different to what they had originally been given - especially in the past when you weren't having to fill in paperwork every five minutes.

Was it your nan who gave false names, it is very unusual for anyone to give a false middle name, but it would not be a void. Are you certain you have the correct parents?
