Question:I tried BMD and I dont know if its actually the person.

I use ancestory but u have to pay, I need to find out about my great grand father as he had a "secret" life, anyone no any other FREE sites?? I dont mind buying the birth certificates but I dont fancy buying the wrong ones! :P

you can find most information you need from The Family Records Office nearest to you. I have obtained birth, death and marriage certificates going back to the 1800's. Good luck.

If you have other, confirming information it's worth writing to the local registry office and asking them to double check the details before sending the certificate.

Yeah try the mormans. they have one of the most comprehensive set of records. Go to their website. it's free.

Familysearch.org is a good free website, it gives you exact dates of birth/christenings, marriages and death/burials. . Not everything is on there yet but its good if you do find someone on there

If you go to the family records offices in london you can look for free at all records and pay for birth certificates if you are interest in that i will give you the address if you edit your question and let me know. Good luck

Are you working backwards and checking your sources as you go?
e.g. Have you got your grandfathers birth certificate with his father's anem and occupation on?
Do you then have your great grandfathers marriage certificate? that would have both his wife's maiden name plus his father's name
from there you would go to his own birth certificate
oh but be careful if you use the familysearch .org website as some of the entries are inaccurate and you should always bear in mind it is just an index and you should always check the original source.
if you are trying to cut corners you can end up making mistakes but it is dificult to help any more without knowing what eveidence you already have - you do not need to give us names just the sources of the info you have already.
