Position:Home>Genealogy> Where did my family come from?

Question:I just want to know what my true heritage is. All my relatives ever say is European descent, but I want to know what country. Can anyone help? I don't want to pay for one of those websites because I just want to know my surname origin. My last name is "Click" which may have been shortened from something else at a time. It is impossible to do a google or yahoo search because virtually every website has the word click on it somewhere. Help please!

This is what www.ancestry.com has to say about the name.
Click Name Meaning and History
English: see Cleek.
Possibly an Americanized spelling of German Klick, Jewish Glick, or German and Jewish Glück (see Gluck).
hope this helps.

THINK
Your HERITAGE is not just your father's last name. It includes your mom (different birth name); grandparents (each having different birth names) and so on. So.. no, you don't want one of any sites that just give surname origins. You want to trace your ANCESTORS.
Back away from google (although using quotes like "click family" will give the exact phrase), and stop by
www.rootsweb.com click on their research guide (one of many online)
www.cyndislist.com is another of the best sites. Ancestry.com does have a fee.. but it is basically the main place to find census records, which are a key record for you.
Please, check out the tutorial, which will get you going. And focus on persons, not surname.

Well if you write in and tell me your
1. Your last name.
2. Your mom's maiden name.
3. Both of your grandma's maiden name's I can give you a idea. Like Germen, Irish, Scottish, English, Italian, etc.

If you are going to try to do genealogy based on origins of last names, you will get NO WHERE as far as YOUR ancestry goes. That is not how you do it.
