Position:Home>Genealogy> Copy birth certificate... cheapest place to get one?

Question:i'm doing a family tree for my children and need a copy of a birth certificate (1945) to obtain further information about my family history.
i have been on ancestry.com and got the certificate number and book number etc, for Manchester England.

but where is the cheapest place to get a copy of it. I was told i could get one for about £8 but sites i have found quote £18-£20??

can anyone forward a link to a cheaper one (Please say in your reply how much they charge - this way you may also find a cheaper alternative off other answerers)

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births...

Online fees
Standard Service
Full certificate with GRO index reference supplied £7.00
Full certificate £10.00

i think you can go the the hospitals web sight and reorder them.

send it to a friend and tell them if they can print it out for you

i did this a few weeks ago and i couldn't find anywhere that did them cheaper than £20 sorry

find site to register office where birth cert originates , i just ordered one myself mine cost £25-00 for full cert but a basic 1 you could pay £7-£10

www.gro.co.uk - you can order online if you have the reference and it only costs £7 per certificate and nothing extra for postage. If you are unsure of some details you are best contacting the Registrar of the district of birth and they will issue a certificate at the same price and if they are not busy will usually do a bit of searching for you, e.g. if you know the child's full name and parents' names and year of birth, but not the date, or if there are 2 children with the same name born around the same time and you have the parents names of the child you are searching for.

The price's from the GRO vary, but they do start at £7:00 if its an on-line order, going up to £8:50 for a phone, postal or fax order and then there a really steep price hike for the express? service. This is the price of a full certificate, I don't think they do they short certificate at the GRO. You will need the volume and page number when ordering from the GRO. lf you get the certificate from the register office where the life event was registered you wont need the Volume and page numbers, just as much information as you can give them.

Hope this helps.

You order from the GRO:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certif...

It costs seven pounds, you can save money by stipulating that it has to have the two names on certificate for marriage and parents names for birth etc.
then if it is NOT a match they only charge you three pounds, sorry I don't have a pound symbol.

I order mine from the General Register Office (GRO) on-line and they cost me £7 - Posted to me about 4 days later. They have all the information required on them. Childs Name, Birth date, parents names, etc.

If you want a fast service say next day..it will cost you £23

I order through the Ancestry.co.uk site. There is a place to order certificates from there that takes you onto the GRO site.

If you are based in England and Wales then you need the web site below.
