Position:Home>Genealogy> FAO: Itsjustme?

Question:I've received a personal message from you this morning and wrote out a reply to apologise for any misunderstanding, only to find that your profile doesn't accept IMs or emails. I must admit, I'm surprised at that.

I gather some people were offended by a section of an answer I wrote yesterday, which advised a user to contact "itsjustme" as 'she has nothing better to do'. I've since discovered that once best answer has been chosen I can't edit or delete my answer, so alas it has to stand, otherwise I'd have altered that apparently offensive line already.

"itsjustme" offers lookups on Ancestry and has a high points rating. Somehow people got the idea that I am jealous. The truth is that although I have the time, I don't suffer fools and just don't have the patience to help people like this. I'd rather leave this to others, which on Y/A happens to be "itsjustme". Alas, the style of my recommendation seems to have offended certain people. For that I can only apologise.

This would have to be the most frustrating genealogy forum ever, I've got a Ancestry UK subscription and wouldn't mind doing the occasional lookup on here but the majority of people ask such stupid questions you can't even begin to help them. Most people don't even specify what country their ancestors are from! So I can see why Itsjustme wants to help anybody that has a remotely researchable query.
I've already thought that Itsjustme must suffer many disappointments, she really does go above and beyond the call of duty, and puts in more effort than the casual enquirer deserves considering that quite often here you don't get your answers acknowledged - or even best answer chosen.
But it's good that a few people are prepared to hang around here and answer the questions of the grossly unenlightened and separate the occasional bit of wheat from the mountain of chaff :-)

Don't lose any sleep over it - there are loads on here that over react to comments - that is what the site is about - voicing opinions and given answers as you see it - at that moment in time.

It's not you that has the problem - they do!! They ask questions and can't accept answers - let them get on with it.

Now go and have a nice cuppa and stop worrying about it -

Thank you Mental Mickey for making your apology public, I just think I should reply on the forum, to let certain people know so that there can be no misunderstanding.
I accept Mental Mickeys apology, and I fully understand the there was no offence intended when you gave your answer to the lady's question.
I offer to do look-ups for people, because I am studying genealogy and it all helps me, plus the fact that I have always loved to help out where I can. That's just second nature to me.

I have always thought that we have some excellent researchers here in the UK and I often put names forward such as Mental Mickey, Veronica Alicia and Benthebus.

I am like the other person who made the comment that when something comes up where you have to do your research to give a decent answer, they're the sort of questions I really like.

In my honest opinion there are far too many, what does my name mean questions and what 's a good nickname for my name, come up. so when something does come up where research is the only way to go, I do offer to help, but it's only as one of the USA researchers keeps pointing out that I need the practice, so I do what I can when I can.
Apology accepted.
