Position:Home>Genealogy> Is the name james Annie a native American name? I know it doesn't sound like

Question:Depending on the time frame you are talking about, YES and NO. Prior to the European invasion of this continent, NO!!!
Since then though the answer would be YES it very well could be. Many of the indigenous people of this continent took "white" names. There were many reasons they did so.

No. And yet there were problably a few native Americans with that name. In America many people, Africans, Indians, and Jewish people to name a few. Ended up with names that did not relate to their country of birth.

The names James or Annie would be unknown to American Indians before meeting the Europeans .

No. Those are more commonly European names.

You can't base ancestry or ethnicity on a name. Names can be purposely or accidently changed, shortened, mis-read, mis-transcribed, mis-recorded, etc. etc.

It is possible that James Annie could be a Native American with a non-Native American name. You would need to research his parentage and ancestry to know for sure.

No, it doesnt, but when the Americans came over and started conquering the Native Americans, they changed their names, lifestyles, and languages. So, the person could be a Native American with this name, the name was just forced upon them.
