MOODY Relation Self Father's Birthplace NC Mother's Birthplace NC Census Place Pumpkin Vine, Paulding, Georgia From what I can find in the early censuses, he had a decent-sized piece of property and owned it outright. When that's the case, the best records can usually be found in the county court house. I'd look for land records, slave sale records, his will (a very important piece of information), and a local biography at the County Historical Society. None of the censuses in that era told us anything personal about individuals. I can't even find the record of "James Sr." in the Barnwell area. It's possible he moved there and was born anywhere from Virginia to Georgia. I do believe he may also have had a son named James who was born ca 1813-1815. But from this point on you'll have to work private collections, like at the historical society, Daughters of the American Revolution library, etc. The records from that era are very tightly held and many aren't digitized. You might start with http://www.dar.org See if they have any records of a James Moody Sr. father of James Jr. of Barnwell and grandfather of Sarah having been in the American Revolution. |
