Question:Has any one ever hear of a James Preston Vinson (1865-1926) married to a Nellie Lee Hill (?-?) from Maury County, TN? These are my great great grandparents. Their youngest son is my great grandfather, Perry Taylor Vinson (1904-1994). The JP & NLH Vinson family migrated from Columbia/Mt. Pleasant, Maury County, Tennessee in 1902 and settled in Ranger, TX. My family and I have been searching for their family history and whereabouts. We have also been searching for why the family migrated from Columbia/Mt. Pleasant, Maury County, TN to Ranger, TX. After the family was settled in Ranger, TX JP Vinson would leave Ranger in the summer time for a long period of time, assumingly would return to Maury CO, TN and would never tell where he was going. My family are searching for traces of him and his family, if anyone has any information please let me know.

You should repost your message at all of these boards as well.

Perhaps you'll find a "cousin" soon who can give you more clues to your mysteries. Unless personal family diaries or narratives are found I don't know how you can solve the mystery of his disappearance.

If you suspect he had another family, you could search the birth, marriage, death and probate records in Maury County, TN. See this site for help on that:

Have you located HIS will? There may be clues in it. Even if he didn't specify a relationship, he could have named someone "interesting" in his will.

(Coincidently I have an elusive VINSON ancestor as well. Unfortunately the years and names don't match with yours!)

Josh, my sister has researched a LOT of our family that came from the Mt. Pleasant, Maury County, Tennessee area to Texas. I'll send this question to her and see if she has any ideas that might help you.
