Question:What is the origin of the last name Daughestony?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: What is the origin of the last name Daughestony?

There's no record of this name, at least anywhere I could find online. Could it be one of these surnames instead?

Daugustine
Dagestine
Daguestany
Daugostino
Dagestino
Dagestini
Dagestina
Daugustine
DeAgostini

If it is one of these, it is likely to be derived from Augustine.

Ancestry.com has this re: Augustine:

Americanized form of any of various European surnames from personal names derived from Latin Augustinus (see Austin).

Austin:

1. English, French, and German: from the personal name Austin, a vernacular form of Latin Augustinus, a derivative of Augustus. This was an extremely common personal name in every part of Western Europe during the Middle Ages, owing its popularity chiefly to St. Augustine of Hippo (354–430), whose influence on Christianity is generally considered to be second only to that of St. Paul. Various religious orders came to be formed following rules named in his honor, including the ‘Austin canons’, established in the 11th century, and the ‘Austin friars’, a mendicant order dating from the 13th century. The popularity of the personal name in England was further increased by the fact that it was borne by St. Augustine of Canterbury (died c. 605), an Italian Benedictine monk known as ‘the Apostle of the English’, who brought Christianity to England in 597 and founded the see of Canterbury.

2.German: from a reduced form of the personal name Augustin.

In any event, these are just clues to its origin. If this is your surname, you would need to research your specific family in order to find its origins.

Is this a real surname?? Spelled correctly?

The reason that I ask is that there is absolutely NO record of any kind of someone with the surname Daughestony (checked many different places including generic public record search sites). In fact, even doing a generic search of Daughestony in both Yahoo and Google ends up with no hits at all except for your query.
