Question:Most people start with themselves and go backward searching for their roots... where or how would you start with these three men from Noahs Ark ? There were only 8 people who survived the flood...Noah, his wife and their 3 sons and their three wives. Noah and his wife had no more children after the flood, only Ham, Shem, and Japheth.
Does anyone know how to go about starting with them and going forward on the family tree instead of backwards?
I think this would be an interesting way to trace your family tree, since all of us came from those three men and their wives.

I think this would be an interesting way to trace your family tree, since all of us came from those three men and their wives.

The obvious way - find all of their children, even the ones who didn't get mentioned in the Bible because they didn't do anything interesting. Then find all of THEIR children, and all of THEIR children. Continue until you hit your grandparents.

Have fun!

It is easier to start with your grandparents and work back, but you asked.

Isn't that obvious, or did you want to hear it from someone wiser, warmer, wittier and more devilishly handsome that yourself?

You don't trace your family tree that way, it s impossible. You have to work from you. Otherwise, where would you go?

And, um, hate to be the doubter but I don't think the Ark happened. Like, your question sounds a bit silly . . . It is nigh impossible that 6 billion people from any number of cultures and races can be related to the same six people, who are said to have lived just a few thousand years ago. I'm sorry, but I don't buy it.

Genealogists try to have real people in their family tree- not made up characters from a story book.

the standard of working from yourself backwards is established for a simple, logical reason...
it works.
It can be verified by documentation.
Don't try reinventing the wheel, if you are really interested in your ancestry.

There are people who take the Bible literally and there are those who do not. Just for the sake of this question, let's take the Bible literally. To trace these trees, you would have to have some form of documentation (at least birth records and marriage records) for EVERY human being who has ever lived in a 50,000 YEAR PERIOD. Much of the world's history has involved people who had no written records. If documentation does not exist for the estimated 105 BILLION -- think of that number: 105 BILLION -- people who have lived, how would you propose to trace lineages?

Even literate societies or societies who passed on ORAL traditions did not create records for every individual -- records and genealogies were for the ruling families and upper classes. Most of these 105 BILLION people were living hand to mouth -- just like 3 BILLION people living in poverty do today. They didn't have the time, materials or desire to trace their lineages. They were too busy trying to stay alive! So, if they didn't leave records, we can't trace them.

If the Bible itself doesn't trace all the descendants of Shem, Japheth, and Ham, what records are you going to use?
