Position:Home>Genealogy> Can anyone tell me what nationality is a person with the last name Cahill- Yi?

Question:Cahill is usually English or Irish and Yi, spelled Yee, is usually Chinese, so I'd say she was someone of British Isles heritage married to a Chinese, or the product of such a marriage.

Cahill can also be African-American and Yee can also be from an overseas Chinese. There have been Chinese people in Peru, Madagascar and the South Pacific, just to name some places, for generations.

If the lady in question has skin about the color of Tiger Woods and herds llamas for a living, she is African-American-Peruvian with Chinese roots on one side. She probably won't be as good a golfer, though.

That last is far-fetched, but it is possible and goes to show you how unreliable names are for judging ethnicity and/or nationality.

May be Chinese, or Taiwanese; probably is not Irish.

Is this a hyphenated name like Smith-Jones, for instance? Is one side Irish and one side Korean?

i would of thought just the Cahill part would be Scottish, i dont know about the Yi part but
