About Scottish Covenanters Index
In the 17th century conflict arose between Church and State in Scotland. Those who remained steadfast in their Presbyterian beliefs and refused to take an oath to the king saying that he was the head of the church became known as Covenanters. They believed that Christ was the head of the church and were punished for this belief. Many were forced to pay the ultimate price for this by laying down their lives. The Royalists and Dragoons, who were seeking their lives, chased the Covenanters from glen to glen, especially in the Lowlands. If anyone was found hiding them, they suffered imprisonment and/or death as well. This punishment was not just reserved for the strong and healthy -- children and the elderly were subjected to the cruelty as well.
The index provides the Covenanter's name, a birth or christening date, a birth or christening place, and a reference to the passage in which information on the individual is found.

Wallace's birth date and birthplace are disputed. While some suggest Wallace was born around 1270, the 16th century work, History of William Wallace and Scottish Affairs, claims 1276 as his year of birth. The consensus is that he was born in that decade but precisely when is something which may never be known. Traditionally his birthplace is claimed to be Elderslie, near Johnstone in Renfrewshire. However recently it has been claimed that he came from the village of Ellerslie in Ayrshire.
In support of the Ellerslie origins, some proposed that William's traditional father—known as Malcolm Wallace until recently when David Wallace's seal was found — David Wallace of Low Fell, a knight and vassal to James the Steward, actually came from Riccarton, Ayrshire, near Loudoun.
Wallace's first action was at Lanark, which is about 30 miles (50 km) east of Elderslie and Ellerslie. Afterwards he moved into Ayrshire to join some Scottish nobles who were fighting the English at Irvine.
Tradition often describes Wallace as "a common person, but in fact, Wallace's family were minor nobles (parish gentry) descending from Richard Wallace the Welshman (the name Wallace may mean "Welsh", or possibly 'foreigner') a landowner under an early member of the House of Stuart, which later 1296 as "crown tenant of Ayrshire" and concludes "'Sir' William Wallace was a younger son of Alan Wallace, a crown tenant in Ayrshire". (NOTE: Wikipedia has excellent article about him)

Ayrshire and Renfrewshire were part of the kingdom of Strathclyde until 1018. The capital of Strathclyde was at Dumbarton. The name Wallace (Celtic: Uallas) is said to have come from the Volcae, a tribe from North Gaul.
Another source says the Wallace family came to Britain from France with William the Conqueror in 1066.
This source makes the Wallace Clan a Norman family, who came from the family of Muras.

(I couldn't find a direct link between James Wallace, and Scottish hero William "Braveheart" Wallace. Did find up to William's 3rd great-grandfather, however.)

If you mean William Wallace ( Braveheart), there does not seem to be any record of a wife or children.

This is what I found on him.
