If you post some more of the details here there you may find that someone who already has a subscription to Ancestry UK will have a look on the 1901 census for you.

Names, dates of birth (or a good guess), where abouts in london will all help.

There were 266 Ernest Taylors in or from London in 1901.

Have a look at this historical directory site.

If you know in which part of London they were born, and roughly when, you could try parish records, also look at the birth, marriage and death records. The census is a really good resource too but you will need more info than you have listed here to narrow your search. Its best to find out the most recent stuff and work backwards. Try and get hold of marriage certificates for Ernest or Frank as they will have info about their Father and work back from there.

If you have a bit more information there are lots of site you could search.

There were censuses carried out in 1901, 1891, 1881 etc and also 1911 but that one is not offically yet available.

If you have any approx dates of birth, or middle names, or addresses then that can be very helpful to you.

look at the census sections of these sites. They look for free registration then money if you want to open their files. The other sites further down are free but may need free registration.

Good luck searching.

Used to be able to research all UK citizens at Somerset House in London -try..www.bmd-certificates.co.uk/somerse... google Somerset House, and go down a few till you come to the bmd link. You can get loads of info there. If you have no luck, get back to me and I will try for you....are you in USA?? This story would make a great book!

You could go to www.ancestry.co.uk and join up. It is possible to pay for it monthly if want to do a lot of research. It costs £9.95 a mth. There is an awful lot to search on there, inc the censuses 1841-1901.
Also there is www.genesreunited.co.uk This is a site where you can search for ancestors/people for free, and put on your own tree for free. If you want to contact the members on their that share your ancestors, then you will need to pay a 6 mthly fee of £9.99. But it is very possible that someone else shares your ancestors on there.
Or you could go and join http://groups.msn.com/UKFamilyHistoryOnl... (the last 3 letters are....ine)
They will do a lookup for you, and get back to you with an answer. xXx

You cannot track down family in the 1900's via the census as the last census taken was the 1901. The next is not due until 2011.
Unless you know exact Birth dates, and where Ernest and Frank were born it will be nigh on impossible to trace them without professional help as although you can go to the Main register office in London there will be thousands of Frank and Ernest Taylors for most quarters in every year.

Incidently, I knew a Frank Taylor who was a Londoner who was married to my Godmother. He was from London( don't know which part), but I knew very little about his family history. However, his marriage to my Godmother was his second marriage( Oct1969), to an Olive Back of Dorney,Nr Windsor. He sadly died late1970's. He would have been born in the era you are looking for. I do know he had children by his first marriage, one of which was male.
