Question:I had my DNA test done by a firm in the UK called "Oxford Ancestors" - had the Matrilineal Test as a "special" birthday present from husband.
You can find details about them on the web.
The whole set up was pioneered by Professor Bryan Sykes, the geneticist who was called in to the remains of "The Ice Man" discovered in 1994.
He is, or was, professor of genetics at the Institute of Molecular Medicine at Oxford University, and wrote the book "Seven Daughters of Eve"
My "Clan Mother" is called "Una" - not one of the Seven

yes I was thinking about doing this , if you mean you long term ancestral makeup, but decided against it as it appears to be extremely vague. Look at Ancestry.co.uk and you'll see an advert about getting it done.
Pretty costly too! Could try tracing your ancesters back instead , it's fairly straightforward now it's all online. Assuming you know your parentage of course, but if not it would be possible to find that too. Have fun!

oh. my. god.

when will people in this country understand what 'ethnicity' means!!!!!

you can't have a dna test to find out your ethnicity is - your ethnicity comes from the culture you live in and your surroundings, it has nothing to do with genealogy or race.

I'm no scientist, but what they are supposed to be able to prove with a DNA test is that all native Europeans are descended from the "Seven Daughters of Eve" (or seven tribes represented by seven women). Some 41% of Europeans apparently belong to the "Helena" clan, the largest of the seven. Other ethnic groups such as Native Americans or Japanese can also trace their line back to one of a handful of women, and ultimately all these "clan leaders" can supposedly trace their maternal ancestry back to “Mitochondrial Eve” who lived in Africa about 150,000 years ago. This only apparently works on the maternal line, because only a mother passes a certain DNA on to her children, not fathers.

Personally I don't have the money to throw away on this kind of rubbish, and have instead invested all my cash in a company that sends icebergs over to Saudi Arabia to help all those thirsty Arab farmers, a far more sane idea.
