Position:Home>Genealogy> Where will I find Kingskerswell Parish Record Transcripts - Free?

Question:Does anyone know where I can get hold of the parish transcripts for Kingskerswell, Devon?? I'm researching the Howe and Melhuish family.

Also I'm having terrible trouble finding the birth dates of two people - I've found their deaths and marriage, but the births are difficult. They were born 1829 Upottery, Devon - any ideas where I should search. I have searched Genuki and IGI also looked on Genes Reunited and Ancestry. I've also put their names into my address bar and tried that way. No luck.

Thank you for any help received.

Civil registration didn't begin in the UK until 1st July 1837, so you would need to be searching the parish registers for Kingskerswell, I believe its actually in Newton Abbot Devon. If you would like to edit your question and include the names you are searching for in full I am sure you will get the help you need there are some excellent researchers on the UK genealogy forum.
Below are some link I think you may get some help from the family history society there.
Is there a possibility that you might have the wrong birth year for Elizabeth, I found this information for you,
1. ELIZABETH ROWLAND
Female
Birth:
Christening: 29 AUG 1824 Upottery, Devon, England
Death:
Burial:
This Elizabeth was one of two born in Devon, but the only one born in Upottery Devon.
CURIOUS.
Is William Elizabeth's husband, please say yes I think I've found him if its affirmative.
The William Leaman I found was also registered as being born in Upottery, he is only one of three Williams born in Devon. He is only noted as being born in 1828 no christening date given. If you think this is your William according to the record I have found it would make Elizabeth born in 1829 which is the year you said. Would you let me know please then I will post the information for you.

I have just checked the death indice for both William and Elizabeth, but both of the two I have found for you actually died in St Thomas , which is in Ashton in Devon. Just checked it out again, so I will post the other information for you and if you want to contact me you can email me through my profile. If you want me to phone the archives for you or the family history society I am quite happy to do that for you, my phone calls are free in the UK. Just let me know what information you would like me to get for you.

Are you able to visit the Devon Records Office near Middlemoor in Exeter? (see website) The Church registers are kept there. Some of the other larger Devon libraries also have fiche copies.
I found a stubborn death this way at Cornwall Records Office at Truro recently, and an elusive Baptism at Exeter.
If you can't get there, the staff will do a search, but it will cost.
Do you belong to the Devon Family History Society? People there are very helpful.
Doubt if you will find dates of birth, this was before civil registration came in. It depends on the vicar of the time. You will only probably find dates of Baptism.

If you need anymore information the Register office at Newton Abbot holds the the Parish records for Kingskerswell tel: 0845 155 1002.
I live not far from Kingskerswell, however Upottery is not near Kingskerswell it is a village near Honiton. Perhaps you would be better to contact their Register Office, though the same lo call rate number.
The Leaman Family still have relatives down here, as one of my sons teachers at Primary School was a Mrs Leaman.

If you want any local info I should be only to pleased to help, you contact via my profile.

Just to let you know, Christow, and St Thomas, are areas of Exeter.
