you could write an aricle for the local news paper in the area you both used to live at there is bound to be a relative or friend still in the area as some people quite often stay in a 20 mile radius

Try Friends Reunited, a good website to find lost friends and family. This is UK based

A clue about which Country would help - there are different sources for people tracing in different Countries.
Edit your question and that will help answerers to know where else to direct you.
Since she was born in 1944 the chances are that she has married and changed her name.
Friends Reunited has people listed under their schools, streets, places of work, but you need to subscribe to be able to contact anyone.
At my school we have an Old Girls Society to which I belong - Isa may belong to one, too.
Otherwise, in the UK - I don't know about US- you could try a letter to the local newspaper; address it to "The Readers' Letters Column" and ask if anyone knows what happened to her.
If she had any brothers, you could try www.192.com to see if they have a listed phone number or come back to me on YA e-mail to check for possible addresses.
It is just possible that she may have a parent still alive (I have a cousin who is 103 and fully compos mentis!)
Was she really Isa, or could she have been Isabel or Isabella?
There are a lot of ladies in the UK called Isabel Gallacher
