Her birth certificate should have that information. It should have the names of both parents including her mother's maiden name. Now, if she was born at home according to how long ago she was born, in some states, she might not have been recorded.

For many religious faiths, churches keep records on baptisms and those records frequently have both parents' names, including mother's maiden name.

The applications for a social security number that I have seen had both parents' names and their places of birth.

Try to find out your grandparents names, if you don't know them already. I'm not sure what it's like in the US, but here in Canada it takes a certain number of year for records to be released (privacy reasons and the like). Depending on her date of birth that information may not be "eligible for release" yet.

In all likelihood, the first poster hit it right.
In general, you won't (and should not) be able to find records relating to someone who is living. I would hazard a guess that there are many records... NOT necessarily online.
You may be wanting (and needing) info for her in particular. Unfortunately, you will have a lot more success once you work far enough back that you are dealing with historical records.

Does she have brothers and sisters you could talk to? Have you checked the Social Security site for deaths of her parents or other relatives? How about your dad, if he's around, does he know anything?
