Position:Home>Genealogy> Is your name re-entered on the register when you are ADOPTED?

Question:Does anyone know if, when you are adopted, your name, mother's maiden name etc is then re-entered on the main birth register? (the one you look up when you go on BMD) - is your real original one still on there? Also, I know that your REAL birth certificate has to have 'apopted' stamped on it - but what about your 'adopted' birth certificate? What does that lool like? Is there anything on it that shows that you were adopted? Any help in this area would be great. Thank you.

My daughter's birth certificate shows on the top "Adopted Childrens Register" but with my husbands name as father and my name as mother, just like a normal birth certificate...when she went to get an abbreviated one to send to the passport office, there was no adoption on it , just her name (her adopted name) and her date of birth , and where she was born (district) Hope this helps xx

I knew someone who was adopted and her birth certificate looked just like mine. The adopted name is in the right place with the adoptive parents names in the place for birth mother and father. We could not find her real birth certificate as it was sealed. I have heard that some records are marked with "inre" on/in them which refers to an adoption. We never were able to open the records. Good luck, Rail

I'm adopted my birth certificate looks like everyone elses except the date it was produced is 1970 and I was born in 1963

im adopted, born in glasgow1955 and i have an extract from the adoption register with date of birth and adopted mother and fathers name on it. i know my natural parents details and sent to edinburgh for a copy of the original.

Firstly, are you in the UK?
If so, contact your local Social Services Office who have Adoptions and Fostering Officers; ask if you can have an appointment to discuss the procedure for obtaining your original birth certificate.

Just a point- another question without "WHERE???".
Remember this site is used a great deal by people in the US, Europe and the UK so it is most important that any genealogical question has details of which country you are in. Laws regarding adoption differ from country to country and probably even from State to State in the USA!
