You'd have to find the birth record and the adoption record. You probably can't, in all probability. They are probably sealed.

The child who died would have a birth record and a death record. Find them both and you've proved your facts.

With rare exception, you have to go to the county courthouse and prove you are related before you can start searching for birth or death records. RootsWeb has Clifornia deaths 1940 - 1995 on-line. The US Gen Web site sin Texas have some birth records. Beyond that there aren't many on-line BMD records for the 1970's, unless you subscribe to Ancestry.

Why do you care? It sounds like thats your moms concern not yours. Maybe you should figure out how to get a life.

My dear, unfortunately, the word choice you used seems to be a indicator of family problems that you are trying to get more grist to grind.

Stillborn children and miscarriages are tragedies in families - that choose to deal with them in very different ways - publicly or very privately. I know my Irish gr-grandmother had 2 stillborn children, and one that lived 6 days - it was apparently so a part of the common knowledge of the family that they were mentioned in her obit - though her living siblings were not. I think I know my Polish gr-gr-grandmother likely lost a child or 2, with a long gap in the middle of the family, but will likely never know.

I think you must ask yourself if there is a real purpose to this knowledge that could benefit your life. You could check the cemetery where your family lived at that time. But if she is truly mentally ill she could be confusing a plot of a novel or show with her life - or be expressing a fear of losing you as a baby.
