Question:We are looking for my great grandpa, we have NOOO idea what happened to him but here some information...

Name: Hirsch, Harry, Harris Siegel
Born: Around 1860
Died: Between Nov. 1893- Aug. 1894
Birth Place: Vilkomir, Lithuania
Spouse: Anna Mark-Siegel
Place of death:?????
Place where he is buried:????

It looks like Hirsche came over from Lithuania in 1890 with my grandpa Samuel. They went to Superior, WI. His wife Anna and the kids came in 1891, the year after, and first showed up in the Polk City Dirctory in 1894-5, which is the same time their last son Joseph Siegel was born (in Superior in August of 1894). THAT means that Hirsche was alive 9 months prior to Joseph's birth, which would of been Nov. or Dec. of 1893. SOMETHING happened to him in 1893 or 1894. In 1895 Anna is in the driectory ONLY with the children. No Hirsche. A guy just cant vanish.

ANYTHING WOULD HELP!! THANKS SOO MUCH!!

Hello: I see Jacob Siegel living in Superior Ward 4 in 1900 with wife Anna and sons Jacob, Mich, John, Lewis, and Joseph, and daughter Nellie. Jacob was born in Jan 1860 in Russia (the most common entry for people from the Baltic States), and there is a brother named Sam living with the family as well. If this sounds like your family, I can send you a copy of the census page. Feel free to email me directly at gensearchers@shaw.ca

Best wishes

You should try contacting the Mormon church in Utah. They have one of the largest collections of historical records available. Many people do research for their family members through them. I saw some people use their records on the show History Detectives on Public Television.

You could also check the local church records in Superior, WI or Polk City. Many churches kept better records of all family births and deaths during that time period than city or town halls did.

I hope that you get some answers about your great-grandpa.

I had to laugh a bit at the person who suggested using credit card records, guess they don't realize that there were no such a thing as credit cards in the time period you are interested in.

Good luck and have a good day.

Which name is the last name? Is it Hirsch Harris Siegel, or is Hirsch the surname?

I found this:
Name: Harry Hirsch
Death Date: 08 Dec 1899
County: Milwaukee
Volume: 25
Page #: 0061
Reel: 086
Image: 0166
Index Volume: 08
ImageNum: 102208
Sequence #: 160441
Level Info: Wisconsin Vital Records Death Index.

Could he have moved to Milwaukee to work? Could they have separated?

Just because he's not in the directory doesn't mean that he died. He could have gone back to Lithuania temporarily, he could have been divorced or separated from his wife. The publisher could have just made a mistake and left his name off, etc. etc.

Also, if he did die, why couldn't he just be buried in a local cemetery? (I'm confused as to what should be designated in the directory...)

Could Hirsch have changed his name to Jacob? Or was his middle name Jacob? There's a Jacob Siegel, born 1860, wife Anna, five sons (one is a Joseph) and a daughter -- and a brother whose first name I can't read, could be Tom? If it's not your man, these folks are likely to be relatives.

Also, I don't know whether this man has any relation to your family, but there's a Joseph Siegel born in Aug. 1894, living in Milwaukee, who lists a dependent father on his WWI draft registration (so his father was still alive in 1917.) It is POSSIBLE that this is same Joseph you mentioned, but that would need to be confirmed with additional info.

Also, findagrave.com has an H. Siegel (but with no dates?!) listed at the Hebrew Cemetery in Superior, Wisconsin. Perhaps if you contacted the cemetery they could tell you who bought the plot. There are several other Siegels there, too...

There's MUCH more information on various Siegels in Superior and/or Douglas county, Wisconsin at ancestry.com. You could take a look at your local library -- they most likely have a subscription.

Finally, you could contact the Douglas County Historical Society -- Someone there should be able to tell how to find death indexes for that time period. They may even search for you.

Yes that is true. Hmmm... You know his credit car number? They can track him don by that you know, the last place he used it and when. Good Luck!!!
