Position:Home>Genealogy> What do you know about the Sami people?

Question:I've suspected that I'm part Sami, from my great-great grandpa. My great grandpa has a "father that came from Europe" says my grandpa. The reason why I think I'm part Sami is because in the late 1800's the Sami came to Alaska to give us reindeer because we were starving from a famine.

My great grandpa has a "different" nose and my mom has the same nose (that's her grandpa), I was looking at pictures and my mom has the same exact nose as a Sami, I was sooo amazed how they match. You can switch their nose and not know they were switched!

Anyways, they named my great grandpa James. But in the late 1800's there were Europeans who came to fish, and it could have been one of them too..I wonder where my great-great grandma got the name James from, maybe it was his (my unknown gg-pa).

for beginners, here is info about an exhibit. The operative things here are who sponsored it, and persons knowledgeable concerning the records.
Your first job is to do your basic tracing back from you, to where you have some documentation about James (explicit dates). That gives you the chance to confirm if he fits the dates detailed here..
If you do make this link... I have found some excellent sites relating to Norwegian records.
Glad to see the posting made it.
