Any geo experts?? - Croatia or Serbia?????

Question:Hey everybody... I am tracking down my family tree and one of my grandfathers is actually from Yugoslavia! Cool... some of his records say he was born in Raca, and others say he was from Belgrade?? Does anyone know if this is in the now Croatia or Serbia??? Which half?

Belgrade is the capital of Serbia now, and Raca is located, I would say about 30-40 miles south from Belgrade in the Serbian District called Sumadija...

Belgrade (Beograd) is Serbia. Raca? Google it. Should solve your problem in 20 seconds :)

Here are your possibilities. Without more information, we won't be able to narrow it further, though. My first question would be, was he Jewish, Muslim Catholic or Orthodox? It would help narrow it down because some of these towns are from areas with a history of being strongly aligned with one or another of these religions. It would also be the next step in finding records back in that country.

Given the time frame of emigration from these areas, I'm also wondering if you've pulled his INS paperwork from the National Archives? That would tell you the difference immediately, and probably also give you the region of his birth.
