It depends on the method of embalming. If they're Jewish and not embalmed, it's about 6 months. If they're partially embalmed, it could take 10 years. Full embalming and a very airtight/watertight vault can keep the body in great shape for over 40 years.

IDK but hopefully the order is reversed and they are deceased before being buried.

A few years back... I worked to find family of a miner who was ambushed and killed in the late 1850s. His skull eventually turned up, uncovered by erosion. They sent the skull to the Smithsonian, and did a facial reconstruction, which was stunningly like pictures of suspected relatives. After the investigation, the local historical society arranged a funeral and reburial .. it was just 130 yrs late.
