Position:Home>Genealogy> What does MAD mean in genealogy research. I see this in front of a lot of names.

Question:?? absolutely not standard genealogical term. MIGHT be someone's abbreviation for married (which the rest of us would put "md." Is this in several places or just one person's records?

I've never seen it. Could you give us an example with a link? If you do, please send me an e-mail via my profile.

I have seen MNU (Maiden name unknown), LNU and GNU for last & given.

My guess is it short for Madame. Is it in front of female names?

Perhaps "MAD" is an abbreviation of "Madam", which eventually becomes "Mrs". Does this abbreviation only occur before the names of wives?
