Why would it be vulgar? (Especially if you don't take the attitude that the other person presented. Just because I'm descended from royal lines doesn't mean that I'm better or worse than anyone else.) It's like saying your father was the mayor. It is a job in many respects..and people would be surprised how many of us had been descended from Kings really. From a genealogy perspective, I think it is exciting to find it. Not only that, but it means that tracing further back just got a whole lot easier. Besides, it makes sense since kings and royalty of any kind often live healthier lives in many respects to others and therefore have family lines that are more likely to survive and not fall victim to life's more serious pitfalls.

Mine is King Edward I of England (However, through a different line I am descended from the Kings of Norway, Sweden and Denmark just a couple of hundred years before.

There might be those closer in time that I am related to that I have forgotten. I just hit those lines not too long ago, and once you find one you can really go to town until the names get a bit muddled in your mind.

Also, I have verified my lines and not just got them off the internet. My mother worked hard on her family history since she was in high school. I then did the same. Which means that I've worked on it for over 20 years now. That is a culmination of 65+ years (when you combine mine with my mother's work...she is still working on it too). Yes, we get a lot off the internet, but we verify everything.

You know, I was brought up to believe that it is vulgar to talk about things like that. It is not unusual for ordinary folks like ourselves to find royal or noble ancestry. But good breeding means you don't flaunt it.

It has been said that 2/3rds of the Anglo Saxon people of the American South have provable royal roots. One Brit, I believe, with the college of arms said "Oh, that's a conservative estimate."

Having royal ancestry doesn't make you royalty.

However, if a person "finds" they have royal roots from some family tree on the internet, it is very likely it isn't provable.
Most of that information is not documented or poorly documented, Even when you see the same info by many different submitters that is no guarantee it is correct. Too many people copy without verifying.

I descend from beautiful and powerful Alinor of Aquitaine, queen of both England and France.

My grandmother (A Howard) is descended from Edward I
