Position:Home>Genealogy> Is there a free and quick way to check your family tree?

Question:I'm just wondering if I'm related to anyone rich or famous in any way. I don't want to pay any money and I don't want to spend hours upon hours searching through records.

Is there anything convenient like a website with a little text box where you put in your name and it will tell you?

The reason all that info is just a bunch of names, is because you got it, just the way you are wanting the rest. It came to you, with absolutely no involvement from you.
Or, putting it another way... the whole POINT (to most researchers) is that the pleasure and satisfaction of genealogy, is the hunt. The success of finding. Since you had no part in FINDING those names, they hold no meaning to you. Just like a jigsaw puzzle... the achievement comes from the doing.
Unless you have another relative who is willing to put it together for you, and wrap it up.. no. What you want isn't out there. Sorry if it sounds like I'm getting in your face.. not my intention. Everyone has their thing. I know people who get a huge thrill out of bungee jumping. I wouldn't touch that with a pole.
What people get out of genealogy, is only achieved, by doing exactly what you say you have no desire or intent of doing. That's cool. Just clarifying what there is.

No

No there's nothing close to that. Before you can compare your lineage to everyone else, someone has to do the research. Ask around your extended family and see if anyone did it and will be willing to share the tree with you. Otherwise, it's impossible.

No, your family tree requires research and documentation.

There are websites, free and paid, and maybe some of your family lines will be on them and maybe not. However, if you did find any of your family, you must not accept everything as being correct. Documentation is not required on websites and most of the trees are not documented or poorly documented. Even when you see the same information repeatedly by many different submitters, that is no guarantee it is correct. A lot of people copy without verifying. Also, living people will not be found on websites as it is an invasion of privacy to put their information out on any public forum.

Part of the fun of genealogy is tracking your family down and uncovering information. Ancestry.com connects your family tree to famous people and it doesn't cost anything to do that.
