Position:Home>Genealogy> Does someone know of an organization that will help you look for your ancestors

Question:I would like to see if someone would be willing to help me to do some research in England/Wales possibly anywhere else in the world to help me find my ancestors. I can't afford a long trip to England right now, but I am wanting so desperately to continue to work on my history.

Post a question those of us in the UK who can help will help it's what we do. Those of us who have been at this for a while remember the help we have been given over the years and like to help others.

Good luck and good hunting

go to myheritage.com im pretty sure its free there, they also have some cool look a like stuff.

You could start your own research using www.familysearch.org it's completely free to use and its an excellent site. If you were to ask your genealogy questions on here, I am sure you will get some help with it, why don't you give it a try.
Hope this helps.

The LDS Church.

Specifically, most large ones have little rooms called Family History Centers with all kind of resources, some on-line, some on CD, AND - friendly, helpful volunteers who will help you. They welcome anyone. I'm not even Christian, let alone Mormon, and they welcome me. Most of them are retired people. They don't try to convert you. Some FHC's are open some evenings. Look in the phone book in th eyellow pages under "Churches". Call and see when yours is open.

Most parts of the country have local genealogy societies that meet at churches or libraries. They're full of great researchers who will help you get organized, find the sites that are out there but not always easy to find, and many of them will spend time with you at a computer and allow you to do searches on the paid sites using the library's subscription. It's much better than hiring someone or flying to Britain...and you get to make some good friends, too.

Start by visiting your county's GenWeb site and see what's going on in your own area. You'll be surprised how much help you can get there. http://www.usgenweb.org

Try "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" - http://www.raogk.org - it's not free, but if there is a volunteer in the area you are intrested in, they will do it for a fraction of the price of hiring a professional.

Genuki is one of the better known UK sites with links to different levels of information. The above article specifically addresses how to find info without having to travel to the UK.
Everything is completely dependent on the level of what it is that you want/ need. There are numerous places (here is one of them) where if you post a specific question that is easily found by someone, you may well find that you can get help. Volunteers and reasonable "look ups" are pretty standard in the genealogy community. If you were asking for someone to spend 5-10 hrs at an archives in England, to do extensive research, that would normally be a bit out of line.
Those in the US often have English lineage, and it tends to be one of the easier things to access from afar.
btw- this is cyndi's list of English sources online. Cyndi has the best collection of resources that I know of.
