Position:Home>Genealogy> What is the best norwegian surname for the first name of "Martin"?

Question:None of the suggestions given above are normal Norwegian names. They should be Larsen (Larson in Swedish), Onsager/Onsager and Henriksen.

Typical Norwegian names will end with -sen (son of) or they will describe the place where the same was taken from. Most used names in Norway of these two kinds are Hansen and Berg, the latter meaning rock.

Quite normal Norwegian names I could suggest to go with Martin would be
Martin Dalen (The valley)
Martin Henriksen (Son of Henrik)
Martin Storberget (The big rock)
Martin Lilleborg (Small castle)
Martin Kvitholmen (The white (small) island)
Martin Jenshus (The house (i.e. the farm) made by Jens)
Martin Seivika (The codfish bay)
Martin Brannfjell (A very strong name: Fire mountain!)

Larson, unless your grandmother was Norse, in which case her maiden name.

Onsagen sounds cool with Martin. But if you want to be authentic, then create a patrynom with your father's name and the ending -sen or -son. If your dad's name is Henry, make the last name Hendriksen.
