Yes Coen is Irish .

Ancestry .ie is a good website,it wll give you guidence.

This is what www.ancestry.com has to say about the name,
Coen
Irish: variant of Coan, or an alternative Anglicization of Gaelic ó Cúáin or ó Cadhain (see Coyne).
Dutch and Jewish (Ashkenazic): variant spelling of Koen.
hope this helps.

(1) does someone have documentation showing that this Levi ACTUALLY came from Ireland?
(2) do you have actual records that show you to be related to this Levi Coen?
Offhand, I would strongly suspect that Levi's actual name would have been Cohen, and without documents, I would not be certain that he came from Ireland at all.

Hmmm...it's an interesting dilemma, but not one we can answer. I checked all of the major passenger list sites, and the closest I can come is Levi Coen of Poland who came to the US in 1868. It doesn't mean they weren't Irish, it just means we can't find the records to prove it.

Here are the NY Passenger list records pre-Ellis Island which may be of some help to you: http://www.castlegarden.org/quick_search...
